Review of The Sinner — S3E1 ‘Part I’
The USA Network series returns with its trademark American take on ‘Nordic Noir’. I review S3E1 — “Part I”.
The Sinner returned last Thursday with its Season 3 premiere — Offering up a brand new crime involving two friends who get into a fatal car wreck off a main road in upstate New York (in the fictional town of Dorchester).
Once again, the basic premise is the same: We know who the perpetrator of the crime is and work backwards from the classic whodunnit in order to find out why they did it.
This time around that who is Jamie (Matt Bomer); a history teacher who has a baby on the way with significant other Leela (Parisa Fitz-Henley).
After a few scenes, we find the two cozying up to a late night in. But before we can enjoy their warm chemistry, Nick, Jamie’s old friend from college (Played by Chris Messina), shows up very much uninvited.
The conversation that follows hints at an erotic relationship between the two men in the past.
It’s something Jamie obviously doesn’t want to come out. But Nick’s highly suspect, personally intrusive discourse seems hellbent on malicious intent.
